(LOUISVILLE, Ky., August 13th, 2004, 12:15 p.m.) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating two murders that took place in different areas of the city. They are the 39th and 40th homicides of the year and police are asking for your help in tracking down the suspects. WAVE 3's Craig Hoffman has the latest.
Emotions run high as another life is lost to violence. About 4 a.m., gunfire erupted in the 4300 block of Tuscarora Way outside the Iroquois Homes public housing complex.
"When officers arrived, they did find a black male that had been shot multiple times. As a result of those shots, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead here--at the scene," said Officer Dwight Mitchell of the Louisville Metro Police.
Mitchell says the victim was in his late 20's and that the gunman quickly ran away.
Then shortly before 8 a.m., another victim is taken away outside of a home in 2700 block of Magazine Street in the west end. Crime scene tape surrounds the car where the crime happened. Again, Officer Mitchell is called in to deal with yet another killing.
"When officers arrived, they found a black male inside the vehicle who was shot. As a result of injuries, he was pronounced dead on the scene," Mitchell told reporters. "Louisville Metro Police homicide unit is investigating. It is the 40th homicide of the year."
If you have any information that may help investigators in either of these cases, call Louisville Metro Police at 574-7111 or Crimestoppers at 582-CLUE (2583).
