LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Interstate 64/65 corridor is certainly hoops heaven. This season may be the most exceptional yet.
Louisville and Indiana, both number one NCAA tournament seeds, could very well end up in the national championship game in three weeks.
Kentucky, the defending NCAA champion, could win the NIT championship, as they are the top seed in that tournament and could play second and third round games at Rupp Arena. The Lady Wildcats are a two seed in the women's NCAA tournament, so they can certainly honor the Blue and White this year in the Big Dance.
Western Kentucky follows a second straight Sun Belt Conference tournament championship with a tough first round NCAA tournament matchup with number one seed Kansas in Kansas City, after losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year to number one seed Kentucky in Louisville.
A final four run in the NCAA women's tournament is certainly possible for the Louisville Lady Cardinals as they play their first two tournament games at the KFC Yum! Center.
Freedom Hall will host the NCAA Division II men's quarterfinals and semifinals and Bellarmine hopes to be a participant in those games.
We salute the fans in this region for their support of these programs and welcome the added attention the coming weeks will bring for these universities. Ultimately, it will likely help increase enrollment at all of them, giving a needed lift in these challenging economic times.
