LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE ) - Leadership West Louisville spearheaded a panel discussion entitled "Academic Genocide." Hundreds attended the event held Thursday at St. Stephen Family Life Center.

Dr. Terry Holliday, the state education commissioner, received backlash last month for saying the Jefferson County Public Schools were committing "academic genocide" toward its students because of some of the lowest scores and the districts lack of improvement.

On the panel, Holliday was shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr. Donna Hargens, the JCPS superintendent.

Some solutions the panel discussed were parental and community involvement, alternative teaching methods, and high expectations. Faith-based organizations were challenged to provide tutoring programs and mentorship programs that will assist West Louisville youths.

Leadership West Louisville officials say next week they will unveil an action plan that can be implemented as early as summer 2013.
