LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – There was a small, but significant graduation held in Louisville Thursday night. While there were no bells and whistles, or pomp and circumstance, it was possibly a life changing experience.
After studying two hours a night twice a week, six inmates at Louisville Metro Corrections received their GED. With her sponsor by her side, Jamie Alwood, one of the graduates, told us why this achievement matters so much.
"Because I wanted something better for me life and to pass onto my daughter," said Alwood. "I'm a recovering addict, so I just wanted to leave jail with a better state of mind knowing that I deserve more."
The graduates also received CPR training and certifying them for the next two years.
