LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A community gathering was filled with hope and unity Saturday at Russell Lee Park in Louisville's Park DuValle neighborhood.

The River City Drum Corp was there and door prizes and lunch were available.

The event was sponsored by the Louisville Metro Police Department's 2nd division. Chief Steve Conrad, Metro Councilwoman Attica Scott and other community leaders addressed issues of crime and violence in the area.

Fhonia Ellis, the found of the Hope or Die Foundation, a youth outreach program, also gave a motivational speech.

"This is how you get your community back together," Ellis said. "It's doing things like this where you're showing the community that you care about them, that you're here to support them and you want to stand together for something."

The LMPD helicopter was on display for children to take a firsthand look.
