JCPS board to vote on dropout age

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Jefferson County Public School board will hold a meeting to discuss the drop-out bill Monday.

Governor Steve Beshear already signed the bill which would raise the dropout age for students from 16 to 18.

Under the new law, individual school districts, such as JCPS, have the flexibility to decide whether to increase the dropout age.

If 55 percent of Kentucky districts are for the raising the drop out age then the law will automatically go into effect across the state.
