JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Indiana Congressman Todd Young is throwing his support behind a call to reopen the K and I bridge to foot and bike traffic.

Young said he has been on the bridge between Louisville and New Albany, and he said the bridge can be made safe for both walkers and the railroad.

"It's just another outlet, another avenue to get across from southern Indiana to Louisville and vice versa, open up commerce conceivably between the two areas and it's a quality of life issue," said Young.

Waterfront Development officials said the ideal situation would be a nine mile pedestrian loop on both sides of the river linked by the two bridges.
