WAVE 3 Guest Editorial - March 26, 2013: Immigration Legislation

With the immigration debate heating up and reform looming on the horizon, it is more important than ever that we take full stock and learn exactly what the landscape of U.S. immigration law and policy looks like.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are the hallmarks of American prosperity. But our immigration policies ensure that the wellspring of that prosperity does not remain in the U.S.  Rather, due to the inability of students on visas to stay in the U.S. to work and contribute to our economy, they either return home or to one of the many countries that recognize the immense impact immigrants have on their economies, and thus, have taken steps to implement rational, efficient, immigration laws that attract world class talent to their shores.

Fortunately, leaders on both sides of isle in Washington have recently spoken up on this pressing issue, and seem willing to work toward a solution.

But until they do, it is our responsibility to show our elected officials the importance of keeping our doctors, scientists, engineers and researchers here, to start companies that create jobs, to discover innovations that keep us ahead of the curve, to stimulate our economy and ensure that we thrive as a nation.

I hope you'll join me in urging our Senators & Congressmen to take action today.
