Dairy farmer wills money to shelters

MUHLENBURG COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A man in western Kentucky left behind hundreds of thousands of dollars to help animals, but not just the ones close to home. His money is going to animal shelters across the state.

Bland Hardison was a dairy farmer in Muhlenburg County.

Hardison loved animals and before he died earlier in 2013, he made plans to leave $225,000 behind to be evenly distributed to each government run animal shelter in the state of Kentucky.

His widow, Jonell Hardison, explained, "I told him it was a rather large project and he said well that's the way I want it done."

Roughly $1,400 will go to each shelter.
