TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

More cameras and less crime is the goal for Toledo police as they prepare to set up the second round of sky cop cameras in the city.

Police are still hammering out their final list of exact locations, but in the next few months, more cameras will go up in west Toledo, the South end, and some even off of Broadway in east Toledo.

The cameras started going up last summer. Police used crime data to determine where they should go, with many going in the central city and near downtown, which are also near the antenna set up for connectivity on top of Government Center.

The department says the first wave of cameras has been a success lowering crime rates, but has also provided them with the chance to learn what to improve for the second wave.

"We are working wirelessly for our cameras, so we're learning neighborhoods, and locations, and poles that we can get into, and get the signal back to our center, and the types of situations where it doesn't necessarily work that well. So, we're using all that knowledge to build out our second phase," said Capt. Mike Troendle.

The department will be putting up 80 more cameras in phase two. Some of those cameras will also have gunshot detection capabilities. It will boost the total number of cameras up to around 150.
