Daviess Co, KY soldier killed while serving in Afghanistan

A Tri-State soldier has died while serving his country.  

26-year-old Michael Cable from Daviess County, Kentucky has been killed while serving overseas in Afghanistan.

Friends tell 14 News he graduated from Daviess County High School in 2004 before joining the Army a few years later.

He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY.

Friends of the family say he was killed sometime on Wednesday while in the line of duty.

His unit was attacked by enemy forces in Shinwar District, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

He died soon after due to injuries.

The news really just reaching many of his friends late Wednesday night. One of those friends, Drew Gray, tells 14 News that he grew up with Cable and is very close to Cable's family.  

They were buddies all throughout their years at Daviess County Middle School and then Daviess County High School. He says Cable was more than just a great friend.

"I mean that in my opinion, that's small words. He was definitely more than a great person. I've known him really well. I've been really close to him. He's definitely been more than a great person, in my personal opinion," Gray said.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Once we get that information, we'll pass it on.
