LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A simple errand gave a mother the scare of her life Tuesday afternoon.
"I was on my way to the store, heading down Jefferson Street," Nicole Crowder told WAVE 3 News. "I'm assuming I was going too slow. The driver behind me blew his horn and I proceeded on and so did he riding my bumper just right on it."
What happened next has left Crowder emotionally scarred and shaken.
"I look out my rear-view mirror and he's holding a gun up his window and if he would have shot it would have come right through my window to the back of my head," she said.
Crowder describes having a mixed feeling of shock, fear, and even numbness.
"It really didn't hit me until I want to say a couple of seconds later when I actually saw the barrel and I was still on the phone with police and I was still going the same speed so I kind of like ducked a little bit," said Crowder.
The man eventually passed Crowder while she called police, but she kept a close eye on him until officers were able to catch up with Shane Spencer, 24.
"Officers said it was 40 caliber, the kind that they carry. Smith and Wesson loaded. That's when it really sunk in that I could have really lost my life today," Crowder said.
It was all over road rage, police say. Crowder said all she could think about was her four-year-old daughter. The two live in Tennessee and were up to visit Crowder's mother.
"She called me and I was just a nervous wreck because she came here to see about me because I'm not well," said Cece Southall, Crowder's mother.
The haunting images have made Crowder question her career path. She's currently studying law enforcement but is now thinking twice.
"I mean if you can get shot for driving slow, imagine if I have to pull someone over for a simple speeding ticket," Crowder said.
Spencer is charged with wanton endangerment and carrying a concealed weapon.
