LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Stealing from a cemetery landed a man behind bars.
A police officer was flagged down by the manager at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery on Preston Highway just before 5:30 Wednesday night. He said a man in a blue van at a nearby gas station had just stolen metal from grave sites.
Officers located the van and arrested Jonathan Evinger, 29. Along with finding a large amount of copper and steel, police said they also found Evinger's 4-year-old son.
When asked about the theft, detectives said Evinger told them he was scrapping the metal and didn't think it mattered.
