JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) – The groundskeeper of a church was mowing grass Friday morning when he discovered the skeletal remains of a human on the property.

The discovery was made around 9 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Jeffersonville, located just off Allison Lane. Det. Todd Hollis of the Jeffersonville Police Department said the age, race, sex, and manner of death are undetermined at this time.

"Right now it's just skeletal remains, there is some clothing and other items that we found around the body," said Hollis. "We'll be collecting those examining those to see if there's anything in that clothing that might help identify who this person was.

Faith Lutheran Church officials declined to comment on the discovery, but the pastor said Good Friday services would continue as planned.

Those in Jeffersonville who live nearby, like Melissa Wheatbrook, are keeping an extra close eye on their kids.

"There's been a lot of stuff going on," said Wheatbrook, "I try to keep them safe but just the fact that something like that happens so close to here that scares me a lot."

Until they know more Jeffersonville Police are conducting their investigation as a criminal case. Homicide detectives, along with the coroner's office and an anthropologist, are involved.
