LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department captain accused of downloading child porn on his computer may work out a plea deal with prosecutors.

Attorneys are close to nailing down a plea agreement for James Mason, 40, charged with three counts of having sexual matter depicting a minor and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

"We believe we have this case worked out," Defense Attorney William Butler said. "We're still reviewing evidence but we're hopeful a plea will be taken."

Investigators said a family member looking for family photos on Mason's computer in June found child porn instead. According to police, that person confronted Mason, who admitted he had a problem. The family member then contacted police.

Police found the computer's hard drive hidden inside a dumpster behind the PRP Fire Department.

Mason is scheduled to be back in court for a pre-trial hearing May 16.
