LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The wall of an apartment building on Manslick Road has a fresh coat of paint, with a fresh coat of bullet holes.

"All I heard was a bunch of shooting, from this way, some this way. I was in my room ducked on the floor," explained the woman who lives in the building.

Detectives in the area heard the gunshots, ran toward the sound and saw two men firing at a white Cadillac with two men inside. Police reports said the two men took off running when they saw the officers, and threw away their guns

"The way it was all going down, we all got down on the floor," the woman said. Four people were inside, including an infant.

Because officers happened to be close by, police were able to capture Sheldon Clay and Francis Middleton and charge them with attempted murder, wanton endangerment, tampering with evidence and possessing a handgun by a convicted felon.

Clay was also charged with drug trafficking because police said he had crack cocaine and $1,313 in his pocket.

The shooting was not a random act of violence. The men in the Cadillac told police Clay and Middleton were shooting at them, trying to kill them.
