Ludwick injured the shoulder while head first sliding into third base on Monday against the L.A. Angels.
"Just trying to be aggressive," Ludwick said after Monday's game. "Ground was a little wet and when I slid head first my hand hit the ground and it stopped, and my shoulder popped out a little bit."
He will be placed on the 15-day disabled list and will be replaced on the roster by OF Derrick Robinson, from Class AAA Louisville. Officials say Opening Night will be Robinson's Major League debut.
