The shooting happened on post late Wednesday afternoon.
FORT KNOX, KY (WAVE) - Fort Knox resumed normal operations Thursday after a deadly shooting in a parking lot on post. Federal agencies have not released additional information regarding the identity of the civilian employee killed or the name of the suspected shooter.
Police cruisers and federal agents spent most of Wednesday evening at a house in the 600 block of Independence Drive in Radcliff. A tow truck hauled away at least one vehicle parked at the residence.
Neighbors said the man lived with a woman and child. "He's a good guy. He just came from Afghanistan. He's active military," William Marion said.
Flickering lights in Marion's living room alerted the 22-year veteran. "Police talked to me here. They said they're looking for my neighbor so I asked what's going on," he said.
Marion didn't learn much - only that investigators on the scene said he should call 911 if his neighbor returns home.
Radcliff police personnel confirmed local agencies are assisting Fort Knox Police, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and FBI investigators. "Radcliff police is cooperating with the investigation division at Fort Knox and the FBI. We are working with them and currently here to make sure that the scene is secure," Officer Bryce Shumate said.
A news release confirmed the victim was a civilian employee of the United States Army Human Resources Command.
The victim was transported to the Ireland Army Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Kentucky State Police said there is an alert to lookout for a person connected with shooting described as being a 5' 9'' tall man with black hair and brown eyes.
