LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP, IN (WAVE) – A 70-year-old man has been identified after a fire killed him and two pets.  A woman and dog escaped unharmed.

Scott County Coroner Jerry Buchanan pronounced Ronald Henry dead on the scene.  Buchanan said an official cause of death will not be released until autopsy results are released.

The fire was reported around 8:10 p.m. in the 5500 block of E. Kinderhook. According to Assistant Chief Mike Higgins of the Lexington, IN Volunteer Fire Department, the house was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.

Buchanan and his wife were in the house when the fire started.  She was able to get out safely with one of their dogs.  Another dog and bird perished in the fire.

Higgins said there are no hydrants in the area and water to fight the flames had to be hauled in by tankers. Several neighboring departments were called in to assist.

It took several hours to bring the fire under control. Higgins said a fire investigator was being called in to determine the cause.
