Text message scam targets First Citizens customers

WYANDOT COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents in Wyandot County are advised to be on the lookout for a text message scam circulating the area, according to the Wyandot Sheriff's Office.

Some residents have reportedly received text messages indicating their debit or credit card with First Citizens National Bank has been deactivated.

The message is written as: "The First Citizens NB Alert: Your debit/credit card starting with 4479 has been deactivated. Please call 419-617-0811."

Sheriffs say First Citizens National Bank has been advised of the scam. The head of information security for the bank says people who receive the text should go to www.firstcitizensnational.com to verify anything they are not certain is legitimate.

Residents should not give any information via text.

Officials at AT&T were able to track the phone number and determined it was spoofed from a computer at an unknown location.

Calling the number goes directly to a full voicemail, according to authorities.
