Loaded school bus hit by car

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Thirteen people, 12 of them school children, were taken to the hospital to be checked after a loaded Jefferson County Public Schools bus was involved in an accident.

According to MetroSafe, the accident happened at the intersection of Brook Street and Hill Street at 4:10 p.m. Monday when JCPS bus 0465 was struck broadside by a passenger vehicle in the intersection. Ben Jackey, a JCPS spokesperson, said the bus was carrying 60 students from Camp Taylor Elementary.

The man driving the car, who also injured in the accident, told police he did not see the traffic light change. He was taken to University Hospital for treatment. The 12 children were taken to two hospitals to be looked at.

The bus was towed from the scene just after 5:30 p.m. The intersection was reopened to traffic shortly after.
