A deadly one-vehicle crash shut down a section of Algonquin Parkway in west Louisville Tuesday morning.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A deadly one-vehicle crash shut down
a section of Algonquin Parkway in west Louisville Tuesday morning.
Louisville Metro Police said an SUV traveling eastbound in
the 800 block of Algonquin hit a power pole and then slammed into a tree at a
high rate of speed near Compton Street at 7:09 a.m.
The driver, a woman around 30 years old and the only person
inside the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she was not
wearing a seatbelt.
Traffic investigators said there is no indication the driver
hit the brakes or swerved to try to avoid the crash. They do not know whether
she suffered a medical incident prior to the crash or whether inattention
played a role. Police cited speed and the lack of a seatbelt as definite factors
in the fatality.
Algonquin Parkway was expected to reopen around 10:30 a.m.
