First-time Thunder attendee chosen as 'Thundernator'

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Lexington man and first-time Thunder Over Louisville attendee has won the opportunity to be this year's Thundernator.

Tom Hatton, 62, a native of Powell County, will activate the fireworks display in the Thunder Command Center at the Galt House Hotel during the Kentucky Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, April 20.

Hatton was among more than 317,000 people who entered a special second chance promotion sponsored by the Kentucky Lottery. Players signed in or registered for a Fun Club Rewards account at kylottery.com. Once logged in, they were able to submit an eligible current, non-winning $2 scratch-off ticket to enter the contest for a chance to become the 2013 Thundernator.

"I couldn't believe it when I got the call and was told I'd won and would be the Thundernator," said Hatton. "My family and I can't wait to be in Louisville, and what a great way to experience Thunder for the first time."

Hatton won a V.I.P. Experience package that includes an invitation to the Festival's annual They're Off! Luncheon on Friday, April 19; a Second Street Bridge and Command Center Tour also on Friday, April 19; overnight accommodations for four at the Galt House on Thunder weekend; and a front row seat in the Command Center on Saturday, April 20 to flip the switch.
