LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man has been arrested in connection with a Louisville murder, but police say he is not a suspect.

The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. April 10 at the Beecher Terrace Apartments. The Jefferson County coroner said the victim, John Percell, 34, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

After Percell's death, Louisville Metro Police say Charles Hill removed a shotgun lying near the body. Hill, 29, told police he hid the gun and planned to go back for it later so he could sell it.

Hill was arrested for tampering with physical evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was arraigned on those charges Thursday morning. Investigators say they do not believe Hill is the gunman and do not expect to add charges.

Pamela Fields is the mother of Percell. She believes her son was killed by someone he had been in a dispute with.

"He says, ‘Mama, I can't sleep, I can't eat, thinking about this guy is going to do something to me,'" said Fields.

Instead, Fields said has been the one who cannot sleep or eat lately.

Funeral arrangements are pending for Percell.
