Alcohol a suspected factor in serious Hardin Co. crash

RINEYVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Alcohol is a suspected factor in a serious single-vehicle crash in Hardin County that left two people badly injured early Sunday morning.

According to Kentucky State Police, Justin Claxton, 21, of Hastings, FL was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck in Rineyville around 5:15 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a mailbox at 1051 Rineyville School Road. The truck traveled through the front lawn, slammed into a tree and then came to rest against several smaller trees.

Police found Claxton unconscious and unresponsive. Claxton’s passenger, Amanda D. Jenkin, 22, of Vine Grove was conscious but seriously injured and trapped inside the truck. Both of them were rushed to Hardin Memorial Hospital and later flown to University of Louisville Hospital. Police said Claxton suffered serious head trauma and was listed in critical condition. Jenkin suffered broken bones and possible internal injuries and was listed in serious condition.

Evidence of alcohol was discovered at the scene of the crash, according to KSP.
