Thunder Over Louisville guests urged to plan ahead

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - In order to keep Thunder Over Louisville enjoyable for all guests, Kentucky Derby Festival organizers are urging the public to plan ahead.

"We want people to take precautions," said Aimee Boyd, a Derby Festival spokesperson. "Be aware of your surroundings."

Derby Festival organizers suggest Thunder attendees heed the following suggestions:

  • Fill up your gas tank before you head to Waterfront Park. Traffic headed to and leaving from the even is expected to be congested, creating the possibility of long lines.
  • Set a specific meeting place and time.
  • Snap a picture of all children in your group with a clear shot of his or her face and clothing.
  • Write out your phone number and place it with each child in your group by pinning it to his or her clothing or writing it on a wristband.
  • Dress in layers as temperatures will change throughout the day.

Boyd also suggests guests know where to find the EMS locations, along with any first aid stations and lost kid areas.
