HODGENVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A fight between a father and son over a gun Sunday night resulted in one person being shot, but no charges are expected to be filed.

"Kind of a strange situation," said LaRue County Sheriff Merle Edlin.

The situation unfolded inside a home in the 3100 block of North L&N Turnpike in Hodgenville.

"There was a struggle, and the firearm discharged," Edlin said.

Police said Dennis Locke, 55, of Buffalo arrived at the white one-story home and eventually threatened to shoot himself in front of family members.

Detectives said Locke's adult son fought to get the gun away from him. But in the midst of the fight, two rounds were fired: one in the air, the other in Locke's shoulder area.

Officers believe Dennis Locke was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the scuffle; in fact, they had already responded to a call involving him earlier Sunday.

"There had been a family problem that had been ongoing throughout the day," Edlin said. "A deputy had responded once. The victim had been out on the road in a vehicle, apparently intoxicated."

Locke was rushed to a hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

No charges are expected to be filed, but the case is being reviewed by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office.
