LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - UofL All-American guard Russ Smith says he will make a decision on his future sometime this week.
"I'm waiting for coach, he comes in tomorrow and we're going to sit down and talk," Smith said Monday night at the UofL All-Sports Banquet at the Fair and Exposition Center. "Pretty much I'll know where I am going to go from there."
Smith has said that he is 50-50 on the decision, whether to return to UofL for his senior season or turn pro.
"Coach (Pitino) is going to give me some good feedback, give me some ideas and I'm going to have a day to sleep on it," Smith added.
He averaged 18.7 points per game for the National Champions. Smith's 748 total points this season rank second in school history for a single season, behind only the 825 Darrell Griffith scored in 1980. Smith set a new school record, scoring 134 points in the NCAA tournament.
Smith called it the toughest decision he would ever have to make and said that he has had trouble sleeping. "If I were to leave, I would leave behind a great fan base, leave behind my education, leave behind some accolades I could get, leaving behind my teammates, but if I stay, I'm leaving behind a year of potentially starting my career somewhere."
