KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

An 8-year-old girl was killed on Lake Havasu late Monday afternoon after falling off the rented pontoon boat she was traveling in and being struck by the propeller.

The incident occurred when a family of six was returning from the Salt Basin area of Lake Havasu on their rented 2000 Premier Pontoon boat.

The 8-year-old female victim was sitting on the bow of the boat when she fell in to the water and despite wearing a life vest was struck by the propeller. She was quickly transported to the shore where she was pronounced dead.

The Mohave County Sheriff's deputies responded to the incident and are still currently conducting their investigation, though they have stated that alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
