LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Creativity is one of the most important 21st century skills.

Fostering that talent will help our students thrive in school and in life.

Jefferson County Public Schools received a big boost in that effort this past week when five JCPS high schools were chosen to set the pace for transforming the system's high schools.

Those schools will be the focus of Ford Motor Company's selection of Louisville for the next place they would invest in the Ford Next Generation Learning initiative.

The initiative has sparked education improvements elsewhere and will here as well.

Part and parcel to the initiative is the involvement of the entire community in the process, and the business community in particular.

Strides are being made in JCPS high schools already, as the 5-STAR schools program has aided many students in channeling a career path.  Many colleges, companies and community organizations help JCPS students earn credentialed diplomas through dual-credit courses, authentic experiences and industry certifications.

Ultimately these programs and initiatives will continue to create a well-equipped workforce.

Toyota just selected its Georgetown, Kentucky plant over other nationwide suitors to build its luxury Lexus model in the United States.

Ford greatly expanded its workforce in Louisville this year with new production efforts.

A world class community starts with a world class education and the Ford Next Generation Learning initiative moves this community closer to that reality.
