LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Students witnessed a mock crash and attended a staged funeral for an imaginary classmate killed in a crash.

The Day of Shattered Dreams program at North Bullitt High School took place on Friday with a goal to show seniors what it feels like to lose someone in a crash caused by drinking, drugs, and/or texting.

North Bullitt High School Senior Class Sponsor Kathy Abell explained, "We had our students get on the computer with their smartphones and it was simulating, it was sending them text messages while they were driving."

Students also participated in a golf cart obstacle course with goggles that showed them what the road looks like if they were to drive impaired.

The seniors also spoke to a local mother whose daughter was killed in a DUI crash, and a man who lost his entire family in the 1988 Carrollton bus crash.
