LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Pleasure Ridge Park man is facing charges, accused of running down a bicyclist.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, a man was riding his bike on Hassock Drive earlier in April when he was hit by Gage Dela Cruz, 19.

Police said after the assault, a passenger in Dela Cruz's car told the victim "that's not all, you have more coming to you."

Officers said road rage was not a factor, instead they believe the attack was over a girl.

The teenage victim was not seriously hurt, despite the incredible odds.

"That's an unfair battle when you're looking at 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of metal as opposed to someone on a bicycle. We know who's going to lose that battle. Fortunately in this case the bicyclist was not seriously injured, but obviously the potential was there for it to be very serious or even deadly," said LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.

Dela Cruz is charged with second degree assault. The passenger in his car is not currently facing any charges.
