CLARK COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A school was placed on lockdown after a stranger tried to sign out a student.
According to Winchester police, James Tolson told them he did not even know the child he was trying to sign out and he just wanted to see if he could.
"When the school went through the check out policy they denied him, didn't turn the child over to the individual," explained Winchester Police Department Captain Shannon Stone.
Police said the school custodian, who has worked at the local jail, recognized Tolson and helped police identify him.
Tolson was arrested in January 2013 after he was accused of trying to get into a school by impersonating a fire inspector.
