Water pipe break damages PCSO offices

FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -

A break in a water heater pipe damaged the Pinal County computer system, dispatching equipment and some boxes containing evidence, but disruption to the county's 911 service was minimized and the evidence saved, according to a PCSO spokeswoman.

The pipe broke Friday evening on the third floor of the sheriff's office, damaging drywall, ceiling tiles and flooring on all three floors of the building, said Tamara Ingersoll of the sheriff's office. She said the water was shut off as soon as the burst was discovered, and that dispatching services were routed to the Casa Grande Police Department, avoiding a disruption in the 911 call system and delays in calls for service.

Computer lines, computers, the dispatching equipment and the outside of 14 cardboard boxes containing evidence from past fraud cases were also damaged, Ingersoll said. The PCSO Evidence Unit placed the evidence into new boxes and resealed, she said. She said the evidence was not damaged and no cases would be affected.

A restoration company was called and went to work on the interior damage Friday night.

No other information was immediately available.
