LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – One of two men charged with murdering a woman in Shelby Park is going before a jury again. Steven Pettway's first trial ended in a mistrial in October.

Police say Pettway and Dejuan Hammond killed Troya Sheckles, 30, in Shelby Park in March 2009. Prosecutor Jim Lesousky told jurors in opening statements Wednesday that Pettway admitted killing Sheckles, but that it was Hammond who orchestrated the murder.

Sheckles was supposed to have testified against Hammond's brother. Lloyd Hammond is accused of murdering William Sawyers, Terell Cherry and Kerry Williams. All three men were shot and killed within a two-week span in 2006.

Lesousky said witnesses saw Pettway wearing the same clothes as the person who shot Sheckles. Defense attorney Leslie Smith said the descriptions are vague and not consistent.

The mistrial in October was declared after defense attorneys argued they did not receive all the evidence from the prosecution. Wednesday morning Smith and her co-counsel Pete Shuler told Judge Angela McCormick-Bisig they are still concerned they haven't received all the evidence.
