A new medical marijuana dispensary is opening in Tempe that's the first of it's kind in the southeast Valley.

Medical marijuana cardholders now don't have to travel to Phoenix or Glendale to get their prescription marijuana.

Harvest of Tempe spokesperson Michael Scerbo said investors spent $250,000 on the new store - $150,000 of the costs was on security.

Harvest of Tempe said all of the store's strains are tested by an independent facility for mold, pesticides and fertilizers.

"We've spent years and an incredible amount of energy building a patient-centered dispensary that should set the standard in Arizona," said Steve White, a Harvest of Tempe board member. "We wanted to set new benchmarks for safety, storefront design, medicine and customer service. We are constantly working to improve the operation and our patient feedback thus far has been excellent. And now we're excited to invite all qualified patients to our grand opening."

The grand opening will be Friday and Saturday.
