LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Think you can come up with the perfect name for a baby zebra? Well here's your chance!

A 72-pound female zebra foal was born at 2:45 a.m. on January 18, and the Louisville Zoo is holding a contest to name her.

The foal was the first Hartmann's mountain zebra to be born at the Louisville Zoo in 13 years and according to her zoo keeper within an hour she was taking her first steps and nursing.

"There's something special about naming a new baby, whether it's a child or a zebra foal, and the Floyd Memorial Birthing Center is proud to be involved in the naming of this new, striped addition to the Louisville Zoo family," said Angie Glotzbach, Marketing and Public Relations specialist with Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, who is sponsoring the event.

Submissions for names must be received by midnight on May 26, 2013 and can be made in person at the Zoo in the Administration building, at the Zoo's website or by sending a postcard to;
