LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A senior athletic department official at the University of Louisville has been named to lead the athletic department at a troubled school.
Julie Hermann, the senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at UofL, was introduced Wednesday afternoon as the new athletic director at Rutgers University.
Hermann, who spent 16 years at Louisville, replaces Tim Pernetti.
Pernetti resigned April 5 over fallout resulting from the scandal involving Mike Rice, the former men's basketball coach. Rice was fired after video became public that showed him abusing players during practice sessions.
In a statement released to WAVE 3 News, Tom Jurich, University of Louisville Vice-President and Director of Athletics said:
"I'm thrilled that Julie has been presented with this terrific opportunity. When I started here more than 15 years ago, I had known her previously and hand-picked her to help us build our programs. She has been a person I could count on throughout the past several years and we sincerely thank her for her many contributions. We've been through a lot together and I will miss her dearly. She has earned this opportunity and I'm confident she will go to work immediately to provide Rutgers a positive direction and be a terrific leader. I'm so happy for her."
Rutgers is leaving the Big East to compete in the Big Ten Conference.
