Nosy neighbor credited with stopping Franklin burglaries

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

A neighbor may have stopped a crime Thursday morning by being a tad nosy.

At 7:20 a.m., a resident in the 800 block of Victoria Drive, in the Rebel Meadows subdivision, heard his neighbor's gate rattle.

When he got up to look out the window, he saw a man jumping over his neighbor's fence from the backyard into the driveway.

On his way outside to investigate, the witness came across a second man standing inside of his own garage. Both suspects fled the area on foot.

Franklin police say being a curious neighbor can be a good thing.

"A nosy neighbor is everyone's best friend. Because this man got up from his table and went to actually look out the window to see what was happening when he heard something suspicious. He prevented one, two or even more burglaries," said Franklin police spokesman Lt. Charles Warner.

Franklin police are still trying to identify the two intruders.

They are described as:

  1. A white man, 5'9" with a thin build, short brown hair and a light complexion, wearing a beige T-shirt with writing on the back and blue jean.
  2. A white man, 5'10", 175 pounds, in his 30s with sandy hair and fair complexion, wearing a plaid short sleeved button-down shirt, blue jeans, brown loafer-style shoes and sunglasses.

If you saw anything unusual in the neighborhood Thursday morning, call Franklin police at (615) 794-2513.
