LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Members of the Louisville Metro Police Department's Bomb Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics and Negotiation Team are on the scene of a standoff in Shively.
A portion of Dixie Highway and several surrounding roads are shut down due to a police situation.
According to MetroSafe, around 4:30 p.m. Friday Shively police were dispatched to and surrounded a home in the 2900 block of Dixie Highway.
Family members on the scene of the standoff said Jerry Ross is the suspect police are
trying to negotiate with. Jerry Ross is the husband of Gloria Ross, 48.
According to the coroner, Ross died of multiple gunshot wounds Thursday night. Her body was discovered in her backyard in the 3000 block of Fernheather Drive.
Jerry Ross' sister, Wendy Banks, spoke to WAVE 3's Maira Ansari on the scene and said she is terrified the SWAT situation will not end well. Banks also said she was not aware of any problems between Jerry and Gloria Ross.
Ross' niece, Janet Wilson who was also on the scene of the standoff said, "We're very worried. We feel like they gonna shot
and kill him. That's basically what they gonna do is kill him."
The perimeter set up by police shut a portion of Dixie Highway, from
Millers Lane to Ralph Avenue, as well as streets in the surrounding
Police are asking anyone who may be in the area to remain inside at this time.
