Orb’s Triple Crown chase ends; Oxbow wins Preakness

BALTIMORE, MD (WAVE) - Oxbow, with jockey Gary Stevens aboard, beat eight competitors on Saturday, winning the Preakness Stakes at Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course and ending Kentucky Derby winner Orb's Triple Crown chase.

Orb, with jockey Joel Rosario aboard, came in fourth place, having broken from the number 1 post, a spot that has seen only one Preakness winner since 1961 – Tabasco Cat in 1994.

Oxbow is owned by Calumet Farm and is trained by D. Wayne Lukas.

Oxbow paid $32.80 to win, $12.00 to place and $6.80 to show. Second place finisher Itsmyluckyday paid $7.80 to place and $5.00 to show. Mylute came in fourth and paid $5.20 to show.

The 138th Preakness Stakes was run in 01:57:54.

The Belmont Stakes, the third leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, will be held Saturday, June 8 at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY.
