Suspect arraigned in Old Louisville rape case

William Swartwood William Swartwood

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man accused of beating and raping a woman outside an Old Louisville apartment building went before a judge on Saturday.

William Swartwood, 28, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with rape and sodomy. Police said Swartwood hid in the 1200 block of South 2nd Street early Friday, asked to use a woman's cell phone, lured her behind a building, and then dragged her by her hair up a flight of stairs and raped her.

Police said this was not the first time he attacked a woman. An arrest warrant for first degree rape was issued on Swartwood in February after a woman he knew accused him of attacking her.

Bond was set at $200,000.
