LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Crowds lined up early outside the KFC Yum! Center Sunday morning. They were anxious to enter and hear the Dalai Lama deliver a public talk of Engaging Compassion in Everyday Lifestyles.

Leila Faucette, an instructor with Louisville's Taoist Tai Chi Society, joined classmates in a Tai Chi routine outside of the arena.

"As we cultivate the body, we cultivate the mind," said Faucette. "In fact, you can't help calm the mind if you're doing this practice, so today, we thought it would be nice just to do some Tai Chi as people were lining up,".

Those who went to the see the Dalai Lama were eager to hear him speak of compassion.

"Compassion is so important right now, it really is. I'm really proud that Louisville has become a compassionate city," said Rhonda Barnett, who waited in line a few hours before doors opened.

Steve Lenahan drove 15 hours with friends from Wilmington, North Carolina. He said he would drive anywhere to see the Dalai Lama.

"I think if half the people understood the basic concepts of compassion and love then the world would be a better place," said Lenahan.

"If we can all get compassion down to each tiny little decision, each tiny action, each tiny word we say as we interact with other people, wouldn't this be a great place to live?" asked Faucette.

The Dalai Lama will also speak Monday.
