LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A big twist took place in the trial of Jeffrey Mundt
on Monday as the prosecution's star witness refused to testify.
Joseph Banis, the ex-boyfriend and co-defendant of Mundt, refused to testify
after he was denied a new trial.
He originally agreed to testify against Mundt in exchange for prosecutors
dropping the death penalty and recommending life with the possibility of parole
in 20 years.
A jury found Banis guilty of complicity to murder in March for the death of
Carroll disappeared in December 2009. His body was found six months later
buried in the basement of the home Mundt shared with then boyfriend Joseph
Banis after Banis was arrested during a domestic dispute between the couple.
