Boil water advisory issued in Madison

MADISON, IN (WAVE) – The City of Madison has issued a boil water advisory.

The City of Madison Water & Sewage Department issued the advisory Monday night for all customers utilizing the City of Madison's water system, including the Ryker's Ridge water system, the DuPont water system and the Canaan water system.

The advisory was caused by a loss of electricity at the main well station in Madison, which caused a chlorine pump equipment failure.

Customers are advised to boil water intended for consumption over the next 48 hours. Water used for consumption must be boiled for three to five minutes. For dishwashing in private residences, a few drops of bleach per gallon of water will also provide adequate disinfection.
