PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Accused killer Michael Fay appeared in court Tuesday for the first time since being charged with two counts of aggravated murder.

Fay, 17, is accused of killing brothers Blake and Blaine Romes earlier this month following an Amber Alert.

An Amber Alert was issued for Blake, Blaine, and Fay in the morning of May 9. A few hours later, the vehicle that was missing from the scene was found in the Columbus area with Fay. The Amber Alert was canceled after Fay told authorities where the bodies of the Romes brothers were.

Fay appeared very calm in court Tuesday, in what was the first of many appearances in this case.

Prosecutors are working to try Fay as an adult, and said if probable cause is established, the law requires Fay be bound over and tried as an adult.

Blake and Blaine's mother, Shellie Grothause, issued the following statement:

"My family and I want to thank the community for the outpouring of support, and for taking the time to honor the lives of Blake and Blaine. Whether you sent food, money, flowers or prayers, it meant the world to us. Take time to hug your kids or your parents every day because you never know when it may be the last time you see them. We would also like to thank you for respecting our privacy as we continue to grieve in the coming weeks, months, and years. We trust that justice will be served."

After his hearing, Fay was transported back to the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center, and is due back in court next month.
