HARDIN COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – Troopers suspect foul play in the death of a woman whose body was found Wednesday morning along a stretch of northbound Interstate 65 in Hardin County.

According to Kentucky State Police, a mowing crew discovered the body around 9:45 a.m. in a grassy area near mile marker 99 south of Highway 313/Joe Prather Highway.

KSP investigators said the body showed obvious signs of trauma and had been wrapped in items they did not identify. Troopers are checking missing persons reports to see if there's a match.

Master Trooper Norman Chaffins said the condition of the body is making it difficult to determine her identity. There was no car near the scene and what remains unknown is if she was killed at that location or if her body was dumped there.

One northbound lane of I-65 traffic was closed for several hours while police gathered evidence and conducted their investigation.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.

KSP does not believe that this is connected to the fallen Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis case in any way.
