ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta police recovered a catering van that was stolen overnight.

A Corner Bakery employee told police he parked his work van on Peachtree St. NE, exited the vehicle and left the van running because he was about to load up his van for deliveries.

One minute later, the employee turned around and saw Howard Lee Stephens, 68, get into the driver seat and drive away.

The employee then got into his personal vehicle and followed the van to a red light at W. Peachtree Street and 10th Street where he told police he got out and opened the passenger door of the van, jumped into the passenger seat, put the van in park and pulled Stephens out of the van.

The employee held Stephens down and flagged down Atlanta Fire Rescue and MARTA police to assist in calling 911 for an officer to respond.

Stephens was placed under arrest and taken to Fulton County Jail, charged with theft by taking auto.
