LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The site of a hydrochloric leak at DuPont Chemicals & Fluoroproducts in Rubbertown has been contained and is under control.

Officials with the chemical company said Monday morning that crews were working to neutralize the site by cleaning the water before it goes to MSD.

Bhanu Calvert with DuPont said although the site is contained, substances continue to leak.

Lake Dreamland Fire Department officials said they are keeping the acid contained by continuing to put limestone onto the substance.

Sherry Jeffery, a mother of three who lives within one mile of the site, said she could smell the chemical Sunday night and feared for her children's health. "I think it's dangerous," Jeffery said. "I really don't feel safe. I really don't. You never know what's there or what your kids breathe."

When asked about neighbors smelling the acid in the air, Calvert said the acid does not have an odor.

Employees of the company returned to work Monday morning.
