BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) - An investigation into possible threats against Bardstown police officers is now in the hands of the FBI.

Kentucky State Police handed over documents to the FBI after receiving word from Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin that threats were made against his department's officers.

Neither Bardstown police nor KSP troopers would elaborate on the threats or comment further on the investigation.

As the community of Bardstown continues to heal following Officer Jason Ellis's murder, word of the threats is not sitting well with neighbors.

"It concerns me," said retired General Electric Cost Accountant Barney Rhodes. "It almost makes you feel like you have to walk around armed."

Barney, who was born and raised in Bardstown, said he has never experienced anything like Officer Ellis' death. The threats have left him puzzled.

"I don't understand. I can't figure it," said Rhodes. "We've got a good police force and a good bunch of people and a lot of citizens in Bardstown behind these people."

Anyone with information about Officer Ellis' murder or threats against the Bardstown Police Department is asked to call Kentucky State Police.
